“I hate piel”

Family

Interesting updates and questions email today. Sent from Dad’s email and half written by Elly and Mom. Good team work I guess. It sounds like you are all doing very well, Elly used lots of words like “legit,” “master,” “kicking butt,” etc to describe each of you. So sounds like you are all on top of things.

Yes I know how Heleman got Bek’s number. Obviously Hermana Correa and I are being matchmakers and working out everyone’s eternal salvation. NBD. 🙂

So the moment of truth, I’m still in Umatilla. President texted and asked us if we thought we had enough work… How do you respond to that? So we told him we would sure continue to work on having enough work.
Yeah… It’s been real slow. But that’s OK!

Nobody who speaks Spanish came to church except for us and Jorge. So once again I translated the meeting to just one person.. Sometimes I think I should just start saying things like, “Jorge if you don’t quit smoking tomorrow bad things will happen, but if you do, the whole world and mankind will be changed for the better.” And that is a fact. However, I’m a good person and try to just translate what the speakers are saying. Often times the
jokes do not translate well, especially since about 80% of the jokes are directed to the missionaries in the back translating and that THAT is the reason they are talking slow, not because he/she forgot to prepare his/her talk.

The honorary quote of the day comes from a six year old girl. She speaks spanglish like a master. But the other day she told us very firmly, “I hate piel.” I think skin is an interesting thing to hate. It’s kind of a necessity. 🙂

The other day we were teaching one of our investigators named maria casteneda. She loves our visits but thus far doesn’t love to do anything about them. Her daughter was there and she seems awesome! She’s just starting out a family, and wants all these great things for her kids. She loves mormons, and already knows quite a bit about the church. Her name is Christian. Fun fact about Christian she didn’t know she was pregnant until six months into it. crazy. Sounds like it could be a TLC show.

The other day and 8 yr old girl prayed that they would have money “da nos dinero.” and also bless the mormons “bendice los mormones.” Not just us, but all the mormons. That was cute.

Random FYIs:

  • I have been programmed to believe that I need dessert after every dinner with any american.
  • I still stick my lips out when I concentrate, I still get made fun of for it.
