So, things that happened this week…
#1 Hna Solorzano pretended it was her birthday and even though I knew it probably wasn’t I played along and the other sisters helped me throw her a little surprise party. Where we ate birthday cake ice cream sandwiches and blew up balloons. I feel bad because I told one of the members it was her birthday and they bought her balloons and pupusas 😮 Later Hna Lamb confirmed her birthday is actually in October.
#2 Hna Lamb had to go in for an emergency surgery on her arm. They did a surgery to take the rods out of her bones but they hadn’t healed enough so, they had to put metal plates on the bones that will be there permanently. Sis Ellsworth decided to send her home to recover. It is selfish of me but I am really sad that she is going because she’s one of my best friends here in the mission.
#3 Luis sort of dropped us last night, but we still have an appointment with him tonight so pray that it goes really well.
#4 Transfer news came a day late again which was stressful, but it did come in time for me to be able to tell you today 🙂 Hna Solorzano is going to Hna Slater in the Escondido branch and she’s also going to cover a YSA ward in English. I’m getting Hna Slater from Atlanta Georgia, and I am pretty excited about it.
#5 Our area struggled a lot this week, and I think I might drop all of our investigators this week, because none of them are progressing.
Questions…
Where is Hermana Solorzano being transferred, and who is your new companion? Is Hermana Solorzano doing better now? I’m sure it’s hard to be moved around, because you get kind of attached to people.
Well, I already more or less answered this, but Hna Solorzano is actually really excited about going to her new area now. She’s excited that the branch president has the same last name as her, and that she’s going to be doing some English work so that she can improve her English.
How’s your Spanish? Do you understand people, and do they understand you?
I understand people. Most of the time they understand me. I still really struggle to have a personality in Spanish because I don’t know any words that aren’t gospel related. So, I often resort to sound effects. Like the other day I told Luis that if he doesn’t read the BOM his life would go – farting noise+thumbs down.
Do you have any advice for Hannah who is hoping she will be able to serve a mission like her big sister?
Read PMG, and memorize some scriptures to quote while you’re talking to people. Catholics take you seriously if you can quote the bible… especially because most of them have never read it.
Please just tell me how you are feeling. Are you having any trouble with anxiety or depression? Are you feeling like Heavenly Father is aware of you and the people you are teaching?
Uh, over all I am doing fine. I am much more relaxed than when I first came out here. Sometimes I do things that I know probably aren’t normal like hiding in the bathroom or in the closest, but that’s mostly just because I still don’t really like people. As far as Heavenly Father being aware I’m sure he is, but I get really overwhelmed when it’s time to pray, because I have an entire list of people I’m supposed to be praying for with all sorts of challenges, and problems. Also feel awful whenever I forget anyone, but I’ve started to write them all down which helps a little. He seems to take pretty good care of people with or without me overall.
Anyways, I’m excited for the rest of the day because we’re going to go visit Hna Lamb and I’m going to take her out to lunch before she goes to the mission home. Then I’m going to draw a picture of a giraffe with a top hat while Hna Solorzano packs.
LOVE YA!
CONGRATS HANNAH!!
