I’m not sure what to say about my first couple of days in Liahona 1st I haven’t been able to spend as much time out working as I would like. Between the VC and weekly planning I really haven’t gotten to do much. I have been working on my street contacting skills, because Sis Noble isn’t quite confident enough in her Spanish yet to be very bold with talking to everyone, and like I said before EVERYONE is Hispanic in this area. Ha, the other day there was this guy unloading stuff from the back of a truck, and we weren’t sure if we should stop and offer to help or not. As we drove past I felt really awful so, I turned the car around and we went back (they now have designated drivers so, I am the only one who drives… ever) We introduced ourselves and offered to help. He said no, and praised us for being true Christians. He was nondenominational Christian, and I am not proud of myself for doing a little back and forth in the bible with him, but I am proud of myself for being able to do it in Spanish.
I started reading Jesus the Christ yesterday, and it’s been a pretty humbling experience so far. I haven’t had to use a dictionary to read a book in a few years. I think my English vocab goes down as it goes up in Spanish. There go my chances of being bilingual.
So, mormon.org is FINALLY available in Spanish, and there’s a video of a lady who lives in Costa Rica!
Sorry that I never know what to write about :/ and I probably won’t have anytime to write letters this week, because my pday is split again because of zone conference. I heard from Lucy which was exciting. She said she’s planning on going to Utah and stopping by to visit you all. I also heard from Hna Lamb who’s in Utah for school now. My letter to Josh got sent back again after you tried to send it so, I don’t know what the deal is with that, but I haven’t tried again… I’m all out of stamps. I also heard from Angie today. Word on the street is she’s having a baby 10 days after I get home. Cha-crazy. She also sent me a birthday package which I am stoked about and trying to hold off on opening until my actual birthday.
Anywho, love you all a lot.
Laterz, Rachel
Questions:
Did you get transfered yet? If so, where are you, who is your comp. etc.?
I am in Liahona 1st. It’s a real Spanish area 😮 It’s all ghetto and everything. Seriously, it’s so different from my last area, but I’m stoked out of my mind, because just about everyone on the street is a potential investigator. I’m with Hna Noble. This is her 4th transfer so, senior comp round 2. She is pretty rad, we laugh a lot.
When I asked her what she’d like for me to say about her in my email home she said, “Please, don’t tell them how weird I am.” We’re becoming quite renowned for our ‘awkward charm’.
It was really funny because I knew I was going to leave the area, but I didn’t know where I was going for another few hours, and one of my guesses was I’d go to Hna Noble. Hna Schwartz said, “That will never happen. That would be ridiculous.” But then it did.
What did you decide for when you are coming home?
I am planning on staying until February, but it’s partially because the idea of going home has become terrifying. I’m worried I’m going to get all depressed when I get home and not be able to adjust to normal society. It makes me uncomfortable when I read my first name in letters from people who aren’t in our immediate family.
