Halo!

To all the people I used to know.

OK, well my birthday was a success. I got three different kinds of cake, and I got pizza with my favorite senior couple! Your package did get here on time so THANKS! I also got a little something something from Angie, and Aunt Rosie. The day after I wore the skirt mom sent and earrings from Angie, and I was going to take a photo, but then… I didn’t. My birthday really was great, and it was really sweet because Hna Noble was really worried about it being awesome. All week I got away with just about everything, because it was my birthday. All week. She’s also the one who set up the dinner with the Livingstons. We also had a miracle that day and we’re able to get two new investigators… actually, it was a miracle week because we found 10. Yesss. There’s soo many Spanish speakers in this area it’s crazy. I could go tracting and it would be effective. I’m not even kidding right now.

Every week I’m really determined to have funny stories and things to type up for my email, and then when Monday or Tuesday finally arrives I sit down at the computer and forget everything that happened. I did attach a lot of photos though which should pretty well explain the best food moments that happened. The melted gummy bears were found by the people at the car wash under one of the seats. They workers at the car wash definitely earn their pay by finding awesome gems under the seats of cars. I feel happy just remembering eating those gummy bears. Oh, I’m such a fatty.
Anyways, I received a good amount of mail this week. Some from really unexpected sources, like, Mel. Who apparently now lives in China? She was offended about not being on my email list. Like I really have enough friends to justify an email list, and I distinctly remember putting a link to the blog on my Facebook page. That hard? I think not. So,  props to the people who are now reading this.
I think I may have mentioned Zone Conference in my last email, because it made it so we had to split our pday in half, but just in case I didn’t I’ll fill you in on the highlights. Mostly watching the Ap’s practice planning for an hour. Planning on itself wasn’t boring enough we need to watch people practice it now. Sorry, I’m back in the visitor center which means I’m cranky due to a lack of naps at lunch time, and also frustrated by all the meetings I have to go to because I have zero time in my area.
Anyways, I will tell you about some cool happenings. Oswaldo. His wife and daughter are both recent converts. The missionaries have been working with them for a while, and we were really struggling to get him to read in the Book of Mormon when we discovered that he didn’t really understand what the Book of Mormon was. So we read the intro with him and invited him to read the first chapter of Nephi. He reread the intro, the testimonies, and the first 2 chapters. Cha-Miracle.
We were also able to meet another part member family while we were out contacting potentials. The dad actually approached us after we left his neighbors house. He asked who we’d been visiting, he then informed us that he was a member, his wife wasn’t, and that they’d love to feed us. We met with them in the vc last night and his wife cried through all of God’s plan, and his 9 year old daughter seems really excited about learning.
Another cool thing. A couple of teenagers came into the vc last week, and walked right up to the front desk. It was a miracle in and of itself that they wanted to talk with missionaries, but then it turned out that one of them wasn’t a member, and they had come in just because she wants to learn more. I gave her a Book of Mormon that she’s been reading and I’ve been able to talk with her about it over the phone.
Well, I’m off to eat some subway.

“preach the gospel at all times and if necessary use words.”

I know that we can share the gospel every day, and that it doesn’t have to be complicated or awkward. My current companion and I are both known for acting awkwardly, but it’s because we’re both awkward people. The people we teach appreciate what we do because we’re sincere. I feel no desire to act exactly like someone else’s ideal of what a missionary should be. I am obedient, but I am myself. I know that if we can apply that same principle to normal life that we can be a great tool for sharing the gospel.  A lot of what I’ve learned on my mission is just how to be a good member of the church. We can all be good and be us 🙂

Looove you.

Rachel
