This week we had general conference, and may I just say… That was freaking AWESOME! I apologize if I might have just lost a little bit of reverence, but I’ve never enjoyed conference like I did this time. We got to participate in the Solemn Assembly and witness Presidente Nelson call for the transfer from visiting and home teaching to ministering, and I actually took pretty good notes and didn’t fall asleep for a single second. Honestly I’ve never really taken notes during a single class in school let alone take good ones for 8 hours of people just giving talks. I received answers for all of the questions that I had and I am very excited to re-study the talks over the next 6 months to continue learning for the rest of that time.
Last Tuesday we decided to follow the example of the son of Presidente Texeira and invite a ton of people to church. So, we printed off 400 invitations for General Conference and handed them out Wednesday Thursday and Friday. That means that we spoke with and attempted to contact about 400 people in just 3 days! I’ve always hated contacting and honestly I kind of avoided doing it leaving most of that kind of stuff for my companions. (Not because I wanted to be rude or slothful just because I have a ridiculous fear about contacting) But now after talking to 400 people in 3 days I contact about every other person we pass leaving the other half for my companion. It’s amazing to see the difference in how God has blessed me and our companionship because I’m actually overcoming my fear and putting forth the effort.
So I don’t remember if I told you about Maxen last week so I’m going to do it now just in case. Maxen is Haitian and we taught him lesson 1 (The restoration) last week and this week we taught him lessons 2 and 3 combined with the bishop and our mission president and challenged him to baptism. He accepted and now has a date for the 28th of April. I don’t know if I’ll still be in Cautín but I’m excited no matter what. 🙂 He then came to the first session of General Conference. I’m honestly pretty sure that he’ll actually get baptised because he seems like he is actually a future convert, but we still need to teach him all of the lessons to help him learn how to endure to the end.
Don’t ever let somebody stop you from reaching your true potential. Least of all yourself, because honestly I think that we are often our greatest obstacle to overcome.
