So, I think I mentioned before that mission wide we’ve been lacking in new investigators and that the AP’s challenged Hna Lamb and I to find 5 last week. Well we totally did. MIRACLE.
First we went to go visit a less active couple who we new had unbaptized kids. We’ve tried them lots of times before and never really been able to talk to them, but after saying a prayer I felt like we should stop by. 3 NEW INVESTIGATORS right there. BAM. Then we were able to meet with a former investigator we’d been trying to contact, and a lady from the English ward gave us a call and asked us to teach her fiance. How they got engaged when she doesn’t speak Spanish and he doesn’t speak all the much English I don’t know, but he has a baptismal date for the 12th of May.
Also Ana got baptized, and it was awesome. We were really nervous about needing to teach her all the commandments except for the word of wisdom, but it turned out that one of the members had already talked to her about the law of chastity, and she already new what tithing was. She was super prepared, and because it only took us two lessons to teach her everything we had left, and we’d scheduled her for all week her and Hna Garcia made us carne asada and it was delicious. Then we had to move the baptism up a day because there was going to be a wedding reception on Saturday. So, she got baptized on Friday, they had to baptize her twice because Brother Woodruff didn’t say her full name, Hna Lamb was super sick, the speaker came late and in work clothes, and it was still prefect. Lots of her coworkers came to the baptism so, we did the whole thing in Spanglish so that they could understand. It was really cool seeing how much support she has for them. None of her family came which was a bummer but I think she was too excited to be too worried about it. Anywho, she was confirmed on Sunday and she came in a new skirt she had made herself and she showed everyone the new scripture set her boss had given her with her name inscribed on it. We were also able to go to the mission presidents fireside with her yesterday and Sis Ellsworth asked her share her testimony at the next one. And I just realized you probably don’t know what the mission president’s fireside is. They’re firesides that happen twice a month, one in English, and one in Spanish. Recent converts share there conversion experiences and different missionaries do musical numbers.
Hna Lamb and I also started teaching the lessons to a couple of less active families in the ward under the guise that I need to practice my Spanish, which I really do, but mostly we want them to come back to church and hopefully invite their friends too.
I am really tired today because we live in a apartment complex with lots of parties and there was some couple screaming at each other around 4 in the morning. I also had a fever which was not very fun.
Oh! Another miracle. Hna Fors finally got a hold of Josh, and Dave. Dave said if she sent him a Book of Mormon he’d ‘crack it open’ which I thought was pretty exciting. She also got both of their addresses so I’ll be able to write to them. I don’t think very many people realize that I didn’t bring any addresses with me so if they haven’t written me I have no way to communicate with them.
Anywho, transfer news came last night like I mentioned before. I’m going to the Valencia branch with Hna Solorzano. She’s from Nicaragua.
The weather in Mesa looks like it is getting pretty hot. How are you holding up to the heat?
It’s pretty toasty, but I’m in a car so, it’s not too big of a deal. I definitely have started using the camel pack dad sent me more.
What can I do for you? Do you need anything?
Could someone send me some music? Probably some instrumental stuff. I inherited one mix cd with instrumental hymns. There’s a banjo one I like a lot. Hna Fors said I’d like Sunday Morning by Jake White.
What can you do to serve someone in your area (miembro o no, no me importa)?
Ha, switching areas in two days so, I will let you know when I get there.
I forgot the scripture you gave me as your favorite (Romans 8:?) Is this still your favorite scripture?
One of them. I like lots of scriptures.
What did you do for Easter in your mission?
… I got a package from you? That was it.
What was your favorite conference talk?
I liked the one Elder Holland gave.
Do you still have a car now that Sister Lamb’s arm is out of the cast?
Yep. I’ll still be in a car in my next area too, and I’ll be with another international companion so it will be my 3rd transfer of being the only driver.
How hot is it at this point in AZ?
mid 90’s are pretty common the past couple of days have been in the 70’s which has been really nice.
