The dogs in Chile are super crazy. The other day one of them bit my companion luckily it didn’t even get through her tights, but it did startle us so I threatened it with a rock. That’s what we do here if there’s a threatening dog. You pretend to skip a rock towards it usually in a crouched position and that scares them away. It’s kind of funny cuz we’ve also been showering in a bucket. Our shower has a few problems, but it’s run by gas and we have to buy the gas with cash sadly we ran out of cash so we couldn’t buy any for a couple weeks and we’ve been heating up water in the water heater we have for making tea and hot chocolate and stuff and we’ve been putting it in a bucket. It’s kind of nice cuz I now feel slightly more humble and I now understand even better the importance of being smart with money. 🙂
One of my investigators is this really sweet older lady named Elena. She’s amazing. We will tell her about the restoration or the plan of salvation or any other part of the gospel and she just accepts it. She has a lot of faith and she is very grateful even though she lives in a tiny house made of ply wood and hand me down furniture with her 20-30 year old son. To make things even more interesting she dropped a stick on her foot and broke three bones in that foot. She can’t walk very much so it’s really hard for her to work or to come to church, but she’ll read and re-read the pamphlets that we leave her and last time we taught her about the word of wisdom and she was down. She had a question about why we couldn’t have tea, because the others are obviously harmful, but tea not so much. I told her that we don’t always know why god gives us commandments and that some day we’ll probably understand and be like oh duh, now that makes sense. She kind of chuckled and nodded her head and said ok. We asked if she would keep the word of wisdom and she was nodding her head before we even finished and said yes of course. She’s a simple lady and many people would think she’s not very bright, but she understands God and spiritual things better than many people who are considered to be extremely smart. I prefer her kind of wisdom because she’s happier.
So this week is transfers. Hna. Fritcher is going to Los Angeles (In Chile) and Hna. McBride is going to train a greenie in Arauco. Hna. Viana is going to my favorite place in the whole world Santa Juana and she’s going to be comps with my best bud Hna. Anderson. As for me, I’m the only Hna. in Victoria who’ll be staying. So tomorrow morning I’ll be saying goodbye to everyone at the bus station and waiting for Hna. Gourley to arrive. Then at night we’ll be welcoming Hna. Silva and her new trainee who arrives in Chile tomorrow.
