Emancipated Minor

Hey peeps,
I’ll just start by answering your questions.
Remind us again what your monthly budget is. Does rent come out of that amount, or is that taken care of by the mission?
125.00 roughly 4 dollars a day. Currently I’m down to 10 for the rest of the month. We’ll see how it goes. Rent gets paid by the mission office, and we have a separate card we use for gas.
You mentioned before that you have a certain number of miles you can drive each month. How many miles are you allowed? What happens if you go over?
It depends on the area. Right now we have 600 a month. As far as I can tell nothing happens when you go over, but I’ve never gone over without letting the guy in charge of miles know a long time before I do. I’ve heard rumors of missionaries grounded on Pdays but I don’t think that’s happened in a while.
How often do you have to cook in a typical week? How often are you fed by members? How often do you eat out?
… Never, unless making pancakes when I’m broke counts as cooking. We eat with members usually every day for dinner. We’ve had some rough luck with that lately which has meant running to get little Caesar’s pizza. Usually we only eat out on Pdays or sometimes we go out with our district after district meetings.
What do you typically do on Sundays? How does it differ from every other day of the week?
On Sundays we start off with correlation with our ward mission leader at 8. The we work at the vc on a shift that rotates between 9-12, 12-3, 3-6, and 6-9. If we’re not at the vc, we study from 9-11 eat lunch, and our headed to church by 12. Sacrament meeting starts at 12:30, then there’s gospel principals, and relief society. After church it’s like any other proselyting day. Sometimes there’s mission firesides but we’re only allowed to go if we have an investigator with us.
How much time do you have on P-days for personal stuff? i.e. at what time do you have to go back to work?
We have from 10am – 6pm… I’m supposed to do language study in the morning, but we’re usually are giving rides to English missionaries so, I justify it by saying I’ll write a note to someone in Spanish or listen to the BOM in Spanish. So yeah… here’s a break down of what happened/will happen today
6:00 wake up, lay around, eventually go to Zone Sports to play our new favorite sport gatorball, and get surprisingly aggressive and competitive
7:00 give the sisters on bike a ride home from sports, let Hna Noble get ready first, shower in 10 minutes and stick my hair in a ponytail
8:00 personal study, reading in Ether in the BOM, and Joshua in the Bible
9:00 comp study, read a bunch of things we’re supposed to recite, read the white handbook, put on makeup while we talk about what we studied in Spanglish, practice for plan of salvation lesson we’re going to have tomorrow
10:00 go pick up the other sisters for email/email you all
11 ish go to grocery story
12 ish get the car washed, go to post office
1 ish clean our room, clean the bathroom, stare at the wall and complain about letter writing/ how I didn’t get any mail this week, take a nap, write a couple of letters, complain about how I’m hungry, eat some gummy worms
6:00 work at the vc
9:30 get home and plan for the next day of adventureAnd to answer Elly’s question. Yes, there are lots of cactus. The cactus here are taller then the trees… except for the palm trees because they’re pretty tall.

Dulce and Pascual are getting married on Saturday! We’re really excited for them, and they’re planning on getting baptized on the 13th. Pascual is feeling more ready than Dulce for baptism, but it’s because he’s finally started to read and she’s stopped. So, hopefully we can help her to read over the next couple of weeks and it can be something they do together. They both started living the word of wisdom the day we taught it, and they seem really happy.

Our ward mission leader is worried about getting Dulce’s parents permission before they get married, but that will be difficult since they’re in Mexico. Dulce is only 17, but earlier in the week we called a lawyer I know from Valencia and he said they should be fine to get married. Apparently because Dulce’s parents are in Mexico and she’s already living with Pascual she’s considered an emancipated minor. We had the chance to have some alone time to talk with Denya and found out a lot more about her. We’re trying to help her and her bf see that the gospel really does have the power to help them have a happy family. They’re really great and always trying to feed us. Actually, they took us out for pizza on Thursday and it made me really happy. She also gave us enchiladas the other day, which also made me happy.

In other news, I was talking to a couple in the vc and after I finished my little presentation the guy informed me that I should go see a chiropractor. He said he could tell my back was bothering me and that I should get it taken care of while I was young. Then the lady started asking about my legs and feet. It made me feel like an old person.Anyways, I love you all a lot. If you want to give me money I won’t say no.
Love,
Rachel

p.s. I had my first catfish taco this week, and it was delicious!
p.p.s yeah, I do talk about food a lot
