lets do the twist

Well, this week was rough numbers wise. We dropped a lot of investigators this week. Now that I’m back in the visitor center I really want to make sure that we have time to find the prepared people. Hna Schwartz is a really hard worker and I’m sure we’ll find new investigators this week.

Fransisco came to church for the second time this week 🙂 And in our lesson with him this week he said he’s not going to work on Sundays anymore. We also taught him the law of chastity which he really agreed with and thought was great, but I’m worried about him having the courage to talk to his girlfriend about it. She hasn’t been listening to us. And whenever we talk to him about inviting her he says he doesn’t want to pressure her, because they have their own lives or something like that. Really they should just get married already.
Luis finally started reading in the Book of Mormon 🙂 Carmen offered to have him read with her and the kids and I think that’s been a big help for him now that they’re doing it as a family. Ha, we also finally found a good fellowshipper for him. Her name is Mandi and she served her mission in Argentina. She went out dancing with him and Carmen on Thursday. I’m really glad that we finally found a normal LDS kid around his age so that he can see that being Mormon doesn’t mean you have to act like a missionary all the time. Haha, and while we’re on the subject of Luis I have a funny story. So, our ward mission leader really wanted to have a family home evening with Carmen and Luis. He said he wanted to watch How Rare a Possession which was actually pretty cool because Hna Solorzano and I had been talking about watching it with Luis all week. He also decided to invite the branch president. So, Hna Solorzano and I show up on time for the fhe with Mandi, but Hno Pimienta isn’t there. When he finally shows up he spends a while small talking. We didn’t end up starting the movie until after 8 which was cutting it really close considering the latest we’re supposed to get home is 9:30. Anyways, after the movie Hno Pimienta is just kind of wasting time waiting for Pres Dyches to come. Pres Dyches finally comes and he talks and talks and talks just to introduce Moroni 10:3-5. Anyways, I started to really sweat around 9:20. Carmen’s friend Sean was there, he’s a return missionary, and he was just watching Hna Solorzano and I get more and more nervous. He thought it was so funny. Seriously though, Pres Dyches wasn’t leaving us any room to interject or anything so we were just stuck there. So, when the closing prayer finally happened at 9:40 Hna  Solorzona and I jumped up and ran out of the apartment. Literally. I jumped over a piece of furniture. I didn’t even know I could do that especially in a skirt.
We’ve started reading the book of Mormon with Judit because even though she was baptized 2 or 3 years ago she’s never made it past chapter 4 in 1nephi. We’re also working with her to encourage her kids to come to church. Her son Emanuel just turned 8 but she’s worried he’s not ready to get baptized. So, we’re going to help him get involved in scouts and teach him the lessons. It will be a good refresher for his mom as well.
We actually had a really cool experience with Judit this Saturday. It was 8:30 pm and we didn’t have any appointments and I wasn’t feeling great so we had to decided to head back home so that I could get the area book updated. Hna Schwartz kept asking if there was ANYONE we could go visit so, I said we could drop in on Hilberto and see if he was home. He wasn’t so, since Judit lives just down the street we decided we’d drop by. She was siting outside in the dark because their power was out. The sky was a really clear greyish color because of the moon and she said it reminded her of home and made her sad. So, we stayed and chatted for a bit and said a prayer with her. So even though it wasn’t the most productive visit from a missionary prospective it was really special to know that God is aware of all his children even when they’re just sort of down.
I’m not really sure what else to say. Not too much has happened this week. We worked really hard and didn’t see a ton of results :/ Hna Schwartz kept asking what we were doing wrong, buuuut hopefully it’s not that we’re that terrible at street contacting but just that it was a slow week.
So, funny story Hna Schwartz speaks more Spanish than I do and she’s only been out in the field 12 weeks. Embarrassing? I’d say so. Oh well, I think I can have a better accent than her in a couple of days. Ha, she speaks super Mexican Spanish and it used to drive Hna Lamb nuts.
How was the graduation? Why has no one sent me pictures?
Dad is the only one I love this week because he’s the only one who sends me letters. So, you should all try to buy my love with things sent through the mail.
Thanks. Bye.
Rachel
p.s. I’m really serious about this mail situation.
p.p.s As mentioned before I’m back in the visitor center so you may send my mail there again.
