Snow Day-Redeemed by Love

Loved ones-
 Quotes of the week.
“It’s P day! P stands for basketball.” Elder Coleman
“Be the Avon Lady on steroids.” President Ware

It has been snowing cats and dogs! Really non stop and freezing cold. Everyone told me that being in Oregon it would be warmer. HA! it wasn’t warmer
The craziest thing is that we had church cancelled due to the snow. Who cancels church?? What’s up with that? Anyways our mission president sent out a call that was like “maybe make this a day of rest. Find someone you can serve.” aka we were given a free day to nap. But I was like “Heck no! We are shoveling walks!” SO we shoveled the drive ways of less actives, investigators, and randoms from 1-5. My back hurts. We got to talk to a super awesome man named Eloy who called us angels sent from heaven. It was also really nice to wear pants for a great majority of the day. 🙂
We shoveled snow for the first part of the day with Jorge, who is kind of crippled, and a basically blind deaf man, a woman who recently got a knee replaced, and two children. It was definitely a sight for sore eyes. Haha but it was  awesome how grateful and surprised people were to see us. Then we got to tell them what church we were from and what we stand for. I’m not going to lie, after big storms is when some big clean up happens- clean up of the souls.
Jorge is doing well. Still struggling with smoking. but he REALLY wants to get baptized. It’s just going to take effort, prayers, and a little time. He is super cool though, and I really enjoy it that he tries to speak with everyone in English. Also as we shoveled snow he kept telling me how Strong I was. I think he was impressed that my noodle arms can throw snow like that. Secret is I have grown up in Utah with parents who make us keep our driveway dry. He’s a funny guy.
We met a man named Luis — I’m a big fan. He is one of those that speaks a million miles an hr and has really weird Spanish. But somehow my brain seems to just click with their eccentricity. He has been reading his book of Mormon, he wants to get baptized, and he couldn’t go to stinking church because it was cancelled. LAME.
Our Chevy Cruze is the best car in the world. That little thing can handle snow like nobody’s business. Can’t tell you how many situations that we got out of with little effort. I will probably go to the grave supporting Chevy Cruzes.
I love you all,
Hermana Holladay
Is your companion feeling better?  Have you gotten sick?
She is much better. and no I have an immune system of steel ever since  my mission.
How is Jorge doing with the smoking?  Do they use the program of the church to help people with addictions in your mission?  Do they have groups that meet to help and support each other or do people just have to do it by themselves with the online stuff?
Yeah we actually found a member to take him to the meetings. The only problem everything was shut down because of snow, and that Oregon doesn’t actually own snow plows. It’s a little unbelievable.
