we put the “fun” in dysfunctional

To illustrate my point for the heading we just finished waiting for Bishop Walker to let us back into the family history center, because we locked ourselves out with our keys and phone inside. Luckily there was a poster for the visitor center in the hallway so they looked up the bishop’s number and TA! DA! email.

Anyways, once again I know lots of things happened this week, I just don’t remember what. I know I was really really tired all week. I forgot how ridiculous being in the visitor center is. We have to do as much as everyone else with about half the time. Ridic. I’ve started to abreve all my words, like Hannah, in order to save time.

Carmen shared her testimony at the fireside this Sunday 🙂 Sis Ellsworth asked her to do it during the fireside. She’s so solid, and she cracked everyone up because she told Luis over the pulpit that one day he would get baptized too and then he’d know what a smart sister he has. She also thanked us for teaching her kids. Who are the best, but more about that to come.
Also, Hna Schwartz got to sing with the Ellsworths and the Beckstrands. More or less her greatest dream come true, and I got to be really classy and snap a photo of it. I like to do ridic things when Pres is around to see what I can get away with. Like taking photos during firesides.

So, I think I am killing Hna Schwartz with my silliness, but I think it’s good for her. She just doesn’t know it yet.

Things in the area are going well. We’ve continued to find new people but we still haven’t been able to set any dates. I think I’ve lost my boldness which was more or less the only good missionary quality I had. So, we’re going to work on getting it back. I think we’re only  going to practice baptismal invites during comp study for the next month or so.

So, here’s a sweet story about Paulo. We went to go meet with him and he hadn’t done the reading assignment we gave him, 1 Nephi 1. So, we asked him to say a prayer then we’d read it together. In his prayer he asked that him and his mom would understand the BOM and thanked Heavenly Father that the sisters come to visit. While we were reading we explained about how God called Lehi to share the things he had seen in visions, and Paulo responded with, “Just like Joseph Smith!” That’s right Paulo, just like Joseph Smith! Will you please explain that to the rest of our investigators? Ok, thanks. Anyways in the closing prayer, yeah, he said the closing one too. He only said thanks for things including the prophet who wrote the BOM. Oh, why can’t I just teach kids? They’re the best.

We had a really great week. We were able to find a lot of people, and I’m sure it’s because of Hna Schwartz’s determination to get better every day at street contacting. We’ve been talking to everyone and inviting them to the Visitor Center to see the art exhibit but also trying to say prayers with everyone.
I learned some really good things from Hna Sordes during exchanges. The biggest thing was that she really talks, and LISTENS to everyone. She has quality conversations with everyone even when she can tell they’re not going to become investigators right away, because she has the attitude of helping them see the church in a different light then they did before. She’s a really good example of how I think the Savior would go about talking to people, because I think he really would take the time to listen to them as well.
Luis is doing well. He’s been reading in the book of mormon, and coming to church. We haven’t been able to see him as much as I’d like, but he’s continuing to progress even if it’s a little slower than I want. I know it’s all in God’s hands and that Luis really just needs to recognize his answer. I’m really glad that he has his sister for an example.
Fransico didn’t come to church this week and we weren’t able to meet with him, because he can only meet with us Weds or Thurs morning. Wednesday we were in the VC and Thursday we had district meeting. So, I talked to Elder Biddles and Sammuels, because we have the VC on Wednesday morning again so, they’re going to stop by and teach him for us this week. We need to find a way to help him to talk to his wife about getting married, because he really loves the church, and I think could be ready to get baptized in a couple of weeks if he put his mind to it.
Anyways, love you all. Even if you don’t even love me enough to send me emails, except for Rebekah and Dad, who writes me real mail.

Love,
Rachel
