Week 2 in Chile

To answer questions:

So Chile is Super cold. It never goes beneath freezing, but it´s humid and therefore feels even more cold than it is and will go right through clothes if you aren´t wearing enough. So far it doesn´t rain a ton, but it has rained later in the day the last few days. In Santa Juana there are 4 missionaries in total consisting of myself Hna Clark, Hna Aros, and Hna Steed. That´s right no Elders, but we do have Gabriel as our stand in soon to be Elder missionary.

We have a branch in Santa Juana.  For district meetings we meet up in San Pedro which is about an hour away from where we live by bus. The food is amazing and the members feed us for lunch every day, which is awesome and rough. They’re a lot like Costa Rica so they dish up for you and give you a plate heaped with food. I have a small stomach, but I feel like I have to eat everything, and the other Hermanas are always telling me to just leave the food and that it won’t offend anybody, but I feel bad so it´s hard not to try to eat it. I need to remember to ask for less food before they dish up for me, because that´s a better way to fix the problem. I haven´t eaten anything gross, but we did have mashed potatoes with hot dogs which was surprisingly very delicious. Completos are totally different from hot dogs and if you guys ever get the chance to try one you should because they´re amazing, but be warned that they’re huge. The members are super nice, but I cannot remember names for the life of me, so a lot of times I just call people hermano/a and leave it there. Also the kissy thing is super hard for me, especially when the other person is also wearing glasses cuz our glasses tend to hit and I don´t know how to avoid it. My Spanish kind of sucks. I literally understood practically everything in Mexico, but now I get totally lost because Chileans really do speak a different language. It´s harder with some people than with others cuz they speak more slang. I love Santa Juana. It´s kind of like Lindon in some ways like size and population and such, and it´s unique for culture and such. My feet hurt sometimes, but it´s not so bad that I can’t handle it and I think they’re finally adjusting. My acne has passed and I’ve grown accustomed to the climate. I think I´m even more accustomed than the natives, because they´re always saying, this is the coldest Santa Juana´s been in a long time and that they don’t get how we’re surviving out in the cold, but we do it without thinking to much.

Funny Story:
Yesterday we ate lunch at the Branch Presidents house with him and his wife, and after every meal with a member we share a thought and Hna. Clark shared a scripture and her thoughts on it and then turned to me so I could add my thoughts as well, but the ADD has been hitting me hard not to mention I´ve been super tired so my mind had wandered and I had no I idea what she had said so I sat there for about 20 seconds and then admited that I was lost, but that I knew whatever my companion had said was true. Everybody laughed luckily, but I felt a bit embarassed cuz that´s not the best thing to do. I´ve also fallen asleep in a couple of lessons and Hna. Clark has been super nice and understanding about it because she says she was the same way her first few weeks in the mission, but this week it´s my goal to speak more in lessons and sleep less.
