The McLaughlins challenged us to look for a new way to contact someone–to come up with a fun story this week of a contact we’d done… so this is the story that we shared:
We were just contacting like normal and saying, “Well, now where are we going to contact?” When some guy on his bike passes by and Sister Duarte says, “Hello! How are you?”
“Hola. Muy bien. Adios.”
“What’s your name?”
But he kept going.
Me and Brother Andres (ex-missionary member) were like, “Oh well. He doesn’t want to listen…”
But Sister Duarte was like, ‘that’s not good enough.’ “Just see,” she says, “I’ll get him to stop.” So she starts after him–even though he was going pretty fast and he’d gotten a ways ahead of us we started chasing him… It took about a whole road before she caught up (me and Andres behind) and contacted him–he was still trying to get away so she just invited him to church and then he left.
He stopped shortly ahead of where we stopped (barber shop) and we were about to turn around and go back to where we had come from when I saw a little lady smiling at me. I thought that was nice. Because let’s be honest, how many people just smile when you look at them? So I was like, “Aw, nice little lady…” and we were about to bike away, and I was like, “well, it wouldn’t hurt to contact her…”
I don’t usually contact women who are alone because we focus on families and priesthood holders because there are way too many faithful women and children in Belize… but I thought, what the heck. So we talked to her and asked about her family and it turned out she is a family after all! We’ll go back to visit them today. See what happens.
We also started teaching a man who we were walking by in the streets and I thought he was someone he knew–he is one of the many people that I feel like I recognize him though I’m not sure where… I thought we’d already talked to him because I recognized him, and he was watching us like he recognized us, and sis Duarte stopped to talk and asked his name–so it turns out we didn’t know him after all.
Later on he told us he felt strongly impressed he should stop and talk to us even though he was in a hurry at the time. He recognized that as the spirit, and he’s very accepting of the doctrined so far, but he has a huge desafio (challenge) because his home is awful disorder–he and his wife got in a fight two years ago and it’s never resolved still and everyone is angry with him… it’s pretty bad. We’ll see what the Lord does with it all. Tell you more next week.
Pray for Victor. And edward my convert in Sensunapan. His baby died and he hasn’t gone to church for a while 🙁 (Sis estrada told me)
p.s. Allison got her passport/will get it Thursday and should be ready to baptize and marry the 15th of Sept!!
Amy got baptized. Tell you more about her too. She’s 9.
Love,
Bek
