Dear Family,
I’m not gonna lie. I think the only time I’ve been really angry is on pdays when I’m trying to write people. REALLY angry right now… The internet won’t work for 10 minutes and it takes like 15 minutes to copy photos onto my thumb drive and 10 minutes to upload a picture on here and I need to send President a photo and I’m mad at him for cutting our time to write down when we need to do things like read his emails and send him photos of our converts.
Grrr.
And for this I can’t think very well so I’ll try to remember questions, but honestly, you’re gonna have to email to me in a list like mom does or I won’t remember/have time to compile them to write them to you guys. AHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!
For Christmas here they burn leaves. I wish I had taken a picture, but there were days when black things were falling from the sky like all day. They’re little black pieces of ash and there were a couple days when our floor was pretty much covered in them in the front of our house (the windows are like strips of plastic that you can open… they’re made like our blinds, only more see-through, so dirt and those pieces of black things that I can’t remember what they’re called… float in). One time it was dark and stormy and I thought really, we wouldn’t know if there was a volcano about to erupt… They also set off fireworks for Christmas, but it’s dying down. It started the end of November. And the little monsters that live in our pasaje set off bombs pretty much everyday. Good kids. Bad behaviors.
As far as our goal for nine baptisms this month it’s… not gonna happen. There is one for sure at least, and that is IRVIN!!! He was confirmed yesterday! Hooray!!! And I really feel like he’s my first baptism since we got to teach him from the beginning, and the other ones had already had all there lessons before I even came to Sensunapan, so with Irvin it’s different. He really was just handed over to us by his girlfriend ready for baptism, but hey, at least he needed the lessons and we could do that and get everything ready for his baptism.
Honestly, the work in Sensunapan is a mess. The baptism was less disastrous than the others, but our Mission Leader… needs replacing. Because the investigator of the other sisters who came to the baptism said it was disorganized and informal, and honestly… it was. It was still great, and I’m so happy for Irvin, but the service wasn’t very nice. Not at all like the weeks of preparation that goes into one for the states and the Bishop is new, so that makes things harder too.
Our ward and chapel are big and well organized, but as I said, the mission work here is a mess. Hna Estrada and I are trying to clean things up in our apartment, and honestly, I haven’t had time to read my letters until this morning. We’ve been looking for those nine people, but yeah… church attendence is the killer. Especially since it’s really hard to visit all our investigators because we have SO MANY. I wrote on a piece of paper all the investigators we want to visit. There were about 55 homes of people we’ve found, gotten references of, to visit, and that’s just investigators. That’s not counting the recent converts and less actives we need to visit and teach and reactivate… Luckily the Bishop is calling ward missionaries so we’re going to put them to work, and hopefully get people to church.
We had three/four in church yesterday: Irvin (now a member), Edward, and Fam Cano (Karla and Alex)
We found a new family that’s really positive and in a really desperate situation. If you could pray that Alex Cano can find work, that would be great. 🙂 We’re going to set a date with them and hope we can get them baptized in January. Our investigator that is trying to get an answer is Jaqueline and Yessenia already knows it’s true I think but she’s afraid to change, as is Alberto. Elder Rodriguez is yelling “tiempo” to go…. Huela.
Love,
Bek
