Trying not to get upset about the pressures of writing…

Well that was a long time answering questions today.  I don’t really understand Dad’s question… yeah… I’m not really writing in my journal either…  I really need to start figuring out what I’m doing I guess.  I guess I’m losing my interest in writing because I’m getting old in the mission now… I’m finally learning how to pay better attention and learning things and people faster…

I really think I have Matt’s same problems.  Sorry Matt, you got it from my gene pool.

I’m feeling bad that I’m not very inspirational in my letters home.  I guess I’m not very inspired.  But I really loved this scripture that I read in Mormon 7:7 and you have to go look it up cuz I don’t have my English scriptures.  The reason I liked it is because the idea of heaven has always actually sounded really scary to me.  Like I don’t wanna go.  It sounds too big and mysterious for my small insignificant brain… and I’ve always trusted that it’s eternal happiness if that’s what God says, but I love this scripture because singing in a choir of angels actually sounds like something I would want to do.  I would give up everything I love to do that.  Sing forever in a choir.

I actually sing a lot now.  I sang on the bus one time.  People thought I was crazy.  But I am.  I’m a missionary.  I can sing on buses.

The baptisms were beautiful, I’m finally sending you guys the pics.  Everyone is in the first picture, Edith and Abi and Hno Adan (the old guy with the crazy eyebrows).  I’m also sending the pictures of them right after they got baptized, which are my favorite because they look so happy. 🙂

Hno Adan is hilarious.  He’s heard missionaries for years, but he was never willing to make the changes before (he had problems with law of chastity, coffee and he never wanted to go to church).  Here’s some investigator drama: we were teaching the son of the lady Hno Adan was living with…  She doesn’t like us to come teach her son because we found them when we were looking for Hno Adan and she started panicking saying “he doesn’t live here” over and over and over again and then when Eber came to church Cesar (adan’s son, our ward mission leader) said to us (when he found out he was his dad’s girlfriend’s son), “awww, brother!”

Yeah… Don’t know if Eber’s gonna get baptized but that should be interesting since Adan stopped seeing his mom because he said her sons got really mad at him when he came over…

So I’m actually leaving Candelaria Wednesday.  🙁 I’m pretty sad about that because I really love this area and Hna Marquez, but she’s gonna be training… so they’re kicking me out early. 🙁

Well, I can never tell you guys everything that’s going on because there’s not enough time, so please just send me questions about the things you want to know because I just write random stuff that I think might be interesting.

Love,
Bek

Questions:

Is it too hot for layering?  What do you recommend for clothing?

Everything that you don’t have to layer.  Pin-striped blouses/high-neck-in-the-front shirts (your neck gets burned more easily than the rest of you).  But that’s for the heat.  There are also really cold areas in El Salvador, so she should bring some sweaters… but I’ve heard it’s easy to buy them here in the cold places too.

Rebekah, can she buy an umbrella in El Salvador as easily as buying and packing one here?  Same thing for bedding, etc?

Don’t wait to buy bedding.  You can buy an umbrella easily here though, and they’re only like 4 bucks.

Anything you wish you had brought, but didn’t or anything you brought that you have been really glad you have.  Recommendations for shoes or raincoats?

Towels.  Dish towels, an extra bathroom towel, washing towels… I love my Dansko shoes.  They’re expensive, but I don’t have to replace them in 3-6 months like all the other missionary girls.

Hannah wants to know why she isn’t on a mission?  ( I think she really would like to do this too)

Dad says “Why the heck doesn’t Rebekah tell us what she’s doing?”  I think he wants a bit more info girl, and that’s a compliment to Rachel since he didn’t include you in that question.

Honestly… I have no idea what I’m doing… can’t remember… lots of people, lots of talking, lots and lots of buses
